WILL AND TRUST PLANNING

Most people leave things to chance, even if it is not what they intend to do.  Most Americans die without even a simple Will in place, even though most know the value of having a Will or some similar written plan. When there is no plan, things may work out, or it may be a disaster.  Without careful planning it is likely things won't work out the way you really intend.  If you care what happens to your estate, put your affairs in order.

Do not assume that things will work out the way you would like.  If you die without a Will or a comprehensive Trust, then the state will impose its own set of laws on you.  The state has its own ideas of who should get what when you die.  Do not leave things to the state, the courts, and the lawyers. And, why hand over your hard-earned money to the tax collector unnecessarily?  Take control now.  Implement a carefully crafted written estate plan.

Estate planning can do more than you think. Proper estate planning should cover your whole lifespan.  We believe it is as important to plan for to meet your needs during life as it is to carry out your plans after you are gone.  You may plan for yourself and your loved ones, without giving up control of your affairs while you are alive and well. You may provide clear instructions in the event of your disability, to ensure that all needs are met and your wishes are carried out. Upon your death, your plan also should allow for efficient and effective settlement of your affairs.  To the extent allowed by law, we can help you implement a plan to pass what you have, to whom you want, when you want, and the way you want.

Estate plans are generally Will-based or Trust-based plans.  Many have both.

Man pushing back hands on a clockTake Control - Develop an Estate Plan.  Try as you might, you can't push back the clock.  The message is simple:  People plan to fail when they fail to plan.  You can control your desired outcome, but you must first implement an effective plan.

We know people are often uncomfortable planning for disability or death.  Yet, we know how important it is to put one's affairs in order.  A well-tailored plan will bring you peace of mind -- a will protect your loved-ones.  We can help.  We'd like the opportunity to help you identify the plan which best meets your needs.

The person you choose to handle all the responsibilities of executor or trustee is extremely important.  It is essential that the person can be trusted and is diligent.   A significant power to control one's affairs, even after death, is the power to choose who will serve as Executor of a Will, or Trustee of a Trust.

At Van Nuys Law Office PLLC, we can tailor an estate plan for your particular needs.  If you are unable to travel to our office, we can come to your home, hospital, or convalescent home.   We serve the greater Seattle area from the heart of Ballard.
